How To Make The Car Cleanup Session Productive

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

The latest vehicle washing stations are really efficient and a testament to technology, aren’t they? You even feel as if you’re going on an adventure as you sit in the car and progress through the various stages. Not only do they do a great job on the paintwork, but they seem to be able to access those difficult to reach wheel areas as well, saving you a lot of fiddling about afterwards.

Of course, taking your car through an automated vehicle washing station is all well and good and will certainly make it appear sparkling and like new on the outside. This may make you feel good about yourself and cause the neighbor to make a nice comment or two, but there’s a lot more to looking after your vehicle and you should schedule a comprehensive car cleanup session on a regular basis.

The outside of the vehicle is only half of the problem, as a car cleanup should cover all the bases, inside and out. Don’t forget to think about the places to store it, as well. It’s a shame, in many respects, that we cannot automatically clean the inside of our car or truck as well, as this seems to be equally as tough a job!

The inside of your vehicle’s Windows will become as dirty as the outside and you will need to clean them all with a proprietary glass cleaner. However, instead of using disposable paper towels, use left over newspapers, as these are known to produce a better result. You really cannot conclude your car cleanup session, if you cannot see out of your windows without squinting.

Think about all that junk that you accumulate inside your vehicle as time goes by. When you’re finished with your paper cup, you throw it behind the seat. Any old CDs and random receipts, you stuff in the glove compartment. Over time, you will be amazed how much excess weight you are carrying around, all of which is not doing much for your fuel economy, is it? Bring out the laundry basket from the utility room, fill it up with everything that’s in the car and take it back inside to sort through. Throw out the junk and store what you need to keep during this car cleanup session.

When you have finished cleaning up the inside of your car and making sure that the its as clean as you can get it, buy some car mats to save any more wear and tear on that carpet. You know that it is prohibitively expensive to replace these items in a typical car and as such you can cut down on the amount of time you spend in your car cleanup session by investing in these mats.

You might pay little attention to the condition of your garage because it is such a utilitarian room. You should invest time and effort here to protect it however as well as the other items that you store there. If you put floor mats underneath each vehicle, they will absorb a lot of rainwater and muck and keep it from flowing elsewhere to cause damage.

When you have completely finished your car cleanup and made sure that the garage is kept to a high standard by inserting garage floor mats, you should mark your calendar to make sure that you schedule this program on a regular basis. You are protecting your investments, don’t forget.

How To Finally Insulate Drafty Windows

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Sometimes if you’re on a budget, or maybe not be the home owner, you might pay little attention to the poor insulation that you have to live with, disregarding the discomfort and higher utility bills. You might feel that you cannot afford to do anything, or do not need to do anything as you are just renting, but you really need to pay attention to the power bill, which you alone are paying for.

If you have a real problem with air leaks, you must insulate drafty Windows or you will be paying through the nose for the pleasure of conditioning the outside air. If you live in an older home with inefficient windows, over a period of time they will warp ever so slightly due to the outside temperature and the action of the sun and will not fit the space they were intended for. Often, you will not be able to see any issue with the naked eye, but understand that unless you insulate drafty windows, the issue will be ongoing.

The chances are that your landlord will not agree to replace the windows in your property, even if you do have a particularly good relationship with him or her. You can still take action and insulate drafty windows yourself and you don’t need to spend every penny you have to do so, either.

Purpose made draft stoppers should definitely be on your list of products to buy as they can cure window drafts simply and effectively. They are highly durable to last a long time, are so flexible that they will fit almost any opening that you have and as they are filled with ground corn cob, you have access to the greatest insulating material available. These products will pay for themselves over and again.

Some people opt to fit plastic kits to insulate drafty windows, understanding that this is quite a big job and they will have to deal with however it turns out. You might not be able to open your windows in the future, however, so just think what will happen when the beautiful spring weather arrives.

Clean your windows before you think about putting plastic kits in places or you won’t be able to reach them to clean afterwards. As you put the kit in place, carefully and slowly remove the paper backing and try to avoid any wrinkles. A hair dryer will heat the plastic and cause it to shrink into place, providing you with the tight fit that you are looking for.

For many people, the cost of replacing Windows or even installing professional double glazing panels is prohibitively expensive. If you are really ambitious you can remove the window frames yourself, placing sealant where necessary and reinstalling, but don’t take this prospect on lightly!

You can insulate drafty windows the old-fashioned way and be far more effective, especially if you have limited funds available to you. Window and door draft stoppers are just perfect at keeping the draft at bay and maintaining the correct internal air temperature.

Top Spring Clean Tips For Your Family

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

When spring finally rolls around, we can feel it in air. Have you ever noticed how you get that additional bounce in your step and you can’t really put it down to anything, other than the change of season? Now is the time to get rid of the winter blues and look forward to the long, hazy days of summer. But before you fantasize about an afternoon by the pool, you have to make sure that you have your house in order. This is the time to look for spring clean tips to make your job a bit easier.

You have a huge cleaning job ahead of you and if you listen to the spring clean tips that tell you where to start off, you will want to open the garage door and consider your work ahead. Don’t leave the hardest room until the end, as your enthusiasm will be very difficult to generate as you get progressively more tired. Most of the junk that accumulates over the winter will find its way into the garage and you will also find that this room becomes very dirty due to the fact that the rest of the outside world is being carried in by your car!

When you finally roll up your sleeves and open the garage door, what do you see? The chances are you see many months of inattention, boxes scattered everywhere, footwear and outdoor clothing in all corners and a lot of the outside world, inside, where it should not be. Make a mental note that you have to be more careful how you use this room in future, in order to avoid the lengthy job that you have ahead of you!

Spring clean tips require you to be ruthless and you should start off by making three distinct piles in an open area of your room. Don’t be sentimental here and make sure that you are categorizing items according to “junk,” “goodwill,” and “to keep.” If you’re not ruthless at this stage, you will just put stuff back into an area and forget about it again. Feel good about donating to goodwill and feel even better about throwing junk to the curb.

You must always start your spring cleaning in the garage and once you have categorized everything that you find according to whether you are going to keep it or not, you will then be able to see what kind of state the actual room is in. Now you can start off by getting rid of all the muck, leaves and dirt that has accumulated over the winter and can then clean up any nasty and unsightly oil stains. Make sure that there is no accumulated dampness, mold or mildew anywhere.

Surely, the most important of the spring clean tips should be that prevention is better than cure? When you have your garage floor completely clear of junk, debris and mess, place floor mats to cover the entire area. They come in various sizes and you can configure them accordingly. These mats will go to work for you immediately and will automatically absorb any runoff, debris and even snow that can fall from your car.

So much cleaning work can be avoided by using garage floor mats in this utility room. As they’re made of polypropylene which is highly absorbent, gallons of water can be sucked in at any one time. You can get rid of the dirt and grit once the water has been allowed to evaporate, simply by vacuuming.

You won’t get all your spring cleaning completed in one go and the garage could take up most of the day. You can be satisfied that this is the most difficult room to deal with though, but just make sure that you put garage floor mats in place to make it even easier next time.

A Draft Stopper Snake Bites Wastage

Monday, April 26th, 2010

None of us will forget the great recession in a hurry. It is highly unlikely that we will resort to the way that we used to operate as it recedes further and further into the past. This is because the green movement finally started to take hold just as the worst of the recession was arriving and we now have a different way of looking at our lives. We know that we need to be sustainable and that the planet itself must be protected from damage caused by greenhouse gas emissions.

Everything we do in the future will be judged according to its sustainability. This philosophy will fit in rather nicely with our post-recessionary plans to save more. By cutting down on energy use, we not only save money and cut back on carbon emissions, but we will make sure that our individual “carbon footprints” are smaller. Look at how much money we waste through energy loss in the home today. We have to do something about this.

As more than 65% of our monthly energy bills is spent trying to cool or heat the home, shouldn’t we try and reduce this as much as we can? If you have an older system in place, try retrofitting it so that you can take advantage of some of the more modern applications. If your system is up to speed, now you should look for areas of your home that are purely inefficient. You will find leaking air in many places and should put a draft stopper snake wherever you find an issue.

Every window and every door in your home is a candidate for poor energy efficiency. The underneath of the door tends to be one of the biggest areas for energy loss, as air leaks in and out during the various seasons. You don’t want to be wasting your valuable air conditioning or heating here and should purchase a draft stopper snake for each of your external doors.

Individual sustainability is critical if we are to make a difference, collectively. We need to be sure that our planet is a more pleasant place for the generations ahead of us to live and it is our responsibility for doing so. To do this, we need to pay attention to what we would otherwise consider the “small things.” Leaky doors and windows cannot normally be seen with the naked eye and we tend to forget them, but this is the place where we should start the journey.

A draft stopper snake is perfect for your needs due to its relatively low cost and flexibility. You don’t need to worry about replacing your windows or putting double glazing in as you try to overcome your energy loss. Just go ahead and purchase a number of draft stopper snake products and watch the savings roll in.

Energy will rise shortly as politicians understand that they need to apply a tax to the very cost of emitting carbon. They believe that this will control greenhouse gas emissions in the long run, but one of the side effects of this will of course be additional energy costs for you. Reduce your footprint and pay attention to your Windows and doors, so that you begin your savings now.

As a draft stopper snake is made from durable polypropylene, it will last a long time and do its work for you season after season. These products are flexible and will fit almost anywhere and they are filled with a great insulating material — ground corn cob.

Smart Cleaning Solutions For Serious People Only

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Where has all your spare time gone? Whenever you get home after work, you seem to spend all night fixing situations or picking up and everything seems to be out of hand. In truth, you don’t have the smart cleaning solutions at hand that the most efficient people count on. When you return from work you need to spend that time relaxing or doing more productive things and less time cleaning.

Work smarter and not harder to maintain the appearance of your garage or home and don’t store up all those cleaning tasks for the weekend. As Benjamin Franklin once said, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and smart cleaning solutions will help you fend off the bigger jobs and make you wonder why you ever relied on supermarket solutions before.

If you have the misfortune to spill a can of paint, a quart of oil or another product of high consistency, you will know how difficult it can be to clean this mess up. You should have some specially designed absorbent pads on hand at all times, in case of such a disaster. These are industrial-strength and can really cut through the mess for you.

Why is it so difficult to keep your garage looking spick and span? Look at your floor. Everything gravitates to the floor, of course, including muck and debris from road construction which will fall off your vehicle when you return from a trip in the rain. By putting floor mats in place you can absorb all that mess and once the moisture has evaporated, you simply vacuum the remainder to remove. You will be amazed how much of a difference this makes to the overall appearance of your garage.

If you store equipment in your garage, such as a ride on lawnmower or other yard equipment, you should ensure that absorbent material is placed beneath them so that the inevitable leaks will be taken care of before they have a chance to set in the concrete beneath. Once again, you are thinking ahead and saving yourself a lot of time and effort in the future.

None of us can do without water to survive, but it is amazing how annoying it can be at the same time. If you live in an area that’s prone to heavy flooding, you will know what we mean. Put absorbent “socks” in your storage area to wait the rainy season’s arrival. Take a leaf out of the book of homeowners in Florida, who know everything about hurricane driven rain water and see what these products can do for you.

Heavy grade chemical cleaners are a definite “no no” in our more sustainable environment these days. Absorb nasty spills before they actually become a problem and you won’t have to waste money on chemicals, worry about that runoff getting into the waterways, deal with recycling containers or have to breathe in those fumes.

Don’t become a full-time caretaker and a slave to the maintenance of your home, by focusing on smart cleaning solutions and industrial-strength answers to your problem.
